What is Self-Directed?

Self-Directed Supports give you a way to have more choice and control over the services and supports you need to live a full life at home and in the community. With Self-Directed Supports, you decide how to spend your Medicaid long-term care dollars in ways that work best for you.

Why proPartnerships?

With Self-Directed Supports, you decide how to spend your Medicaid long-term care dollars. You make the choices; proPartnerships provides the guidance and tools you need to make it work!

Self-directed supports are a way for adults receiving services to have more control over how they spend service funding.

Our role:

proPartnerships is a Fiscal Intermediary (FI). As a Fiscal Intermediary, we assist you, the employer, in managing your self-directed support budget according to your approved plan.

  • Complete all required tax forms and pay all taxes associated with your program to the Federal and State Governments.
  • Process employee timesheets and mail employee paychecks/paystubs to you on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Review and pay invoices associated with your approved budget.

Another feature of self-directed supports is Goods and Services allowing individuals use of their funding to purchase goods and services to support their health, wellbeing, and goals.

Your role:

All persons receiving services from proPartnerships are legally considered sole proprietors, each having their own individual Employment Identification Numbers (EIN) provided to them by the Internal Revenue Service.

  • Contact a plan writer. Set person-centered goals. Determine goods and service requests.
  • Find, hire, fire, train, supervise, and schedule support staff.
  • Determine the rate of pay for support staff. Submit signed timesheets following the payroll schedule.
  • You can also choose to get services from a DDD/BHDDH agency or another agency that can help you meet your goals.
